Relationships Education

To all parents and carers,

RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) and Health Education - JIGSAW

Thank you to everyone who responded to our consultation on Relationship and Sex Education. As the result of this consultation, we have decided that we will proceed with the plans that we consulted on.
We had some incredibly useful responses from parents – mostly very supportive. As one parent said ‘’It is much better for us to talk openly with our children about these things, than for them to learn things – inaccurately – from each other, or worse from the internet’’. We could not agree more! Parents posed some really interesting questions, which helped us to reflect very carefully on what we intend to deliver and some things that we will need to be mindful of. I will respond to these questions in this letter.

During the week beginning 12th July, teachers will be delivering RSE lessons in the afternoons.

Because some year groups have missed out on some content, we need to revisit lessons from previous year groups for some of the older children.

Year 1, 2 and 3 will cover the content for their year group.

For children in Years 4, 5 and 6, we intend to teach the girls and boys separately.
Year 4 will cover elements of the Year 3 curriculum AND the Year 4 curriculum.
Year 5 and 6 cover elements of the Year 3 curriculum and all of the Year 5 curriculum.

On our website, you can find:
• This letter
• Lesson plans (so that you can see exactly what will be covered)
• Our Policy
• Jigsaw Guide For Parents

We are putting the lesson plans on our school website, so that you can see exactly what will be taught across the week. Parents may choose to withdraw their children from lessons highlighted in yellow.

Please read this document carefully, particularly if you wish to withdraw your child – there is information about how you can go about this. (You must complete the withdrawal form EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY expressed this view as part of our consultation). If you do wish to withdraw your child, please complete this form by Friday 9th July and email it to the school office or hand a paper copy in to the school office or class teacher. (Class teachers will also have copies of this form).

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to email in a question or speak with your child’s class teacher.

Yours faithfully,

Miss J Lacey
